  1. I assume this is another "2013 enhancement". I ended up duplicating the return, (One for filing and one for next year's rollover.), and deleting the asset for filing 2012. Jim
  2. I like the bottom tab navigation arrows. But since it only half gives back the "instant Page 1 jump" ability by right-clicking on "pages & worksheets" area, I still don't consider it much of an enhancement. Jim
  3. Not before it unchecks them all one last time apparently! Plus every bit of Accts Rec Tab (Date billed, Amount, and Check no) is gone for every return prior to 12.09. Should've stayed with 09. Jim
  4. Need to know if they lived within a jurisdiction that imposes a "local" income tax. If they lived in a rural area, and only worked in the municipality, they most likely don't need to do anything. Every local taxing agency is different. If they lived in the jurisdiction that was withheld, and the W-2 was the only income, they MAY not have to file. Most locals tax 1) ALL earnings (I link Medicare wages to the form), 2) business income, (rental included), 3) partnership and S-corp income. Jim
  5. The good thing about his type is, they never lose track of the "big" prize. Jim
  6. Congrats to all of you! I remember your post(s), because my nephew was about a year ahead of your son in lessons. He "started" with a flight during his freshman year of college, and was a CFI before graduation (worked like a dog, school, jobs, and lessons). Make sure your son keeps education a priority, my nephew always said college degree is a MUST to all airlines. He is now flying for Skywest and loves it, and speaks very highly of the company. Again, congrats, Jim
  7. I just did. Six and a half minutes to load on my new (fast) laptop. This is my personal computer, used as a guinea pig. I am running slow but sure on my work computer - and taking no chances on an update shutting me down. Jim Edit: Second time I opened the program it took 10 seconds (WOW), hope this cures the network people!
  8. Honestly, I don't know. Most times I call the client, tell them what I need (and how to get it), and they show up in an hour (or the next day) with the print-out. But I'm in a small area, where everyone knows everyone! I've seen mail requests take forever, and be so quick that I wouldn't have believed it possible. (No consistency!) Jim
  9. In our area, at least, you can walk in to the local office and get a print-out in minutes. (Crowd dependent) All of the information is there, but it's hard to read. Beats waiting! Jim
  10. Local news reported a few days ago, that cops spotted the lights on at a tax prep office late the other night. Upon investigation the manager and an employee were arrrested for smoking marajuana. I assumed they had just installed the 12.6 update! Jim
  11. Jack: The following was posted "over there" by msd45150 " We have followed this llink and are able to open the program. We also ran a forms update and downloaded the new forms. http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14069/kw/ATX2012%5CAssets Next observation. The Win7 workstations only rollover a file if we first log onto the server and run Sfs.Max.RolloverService.exe. Running it at the workstation level doesn't accomplish anything. We have an open work number on this well past the 48 hours and are awaiting the response. If we ever get a response, I’ll post it as a work around. " Not sure if this is your problem or not, but the only other thread found in a search of "Could not access FAM" resulted in an ATX employee responding: "We're working on it." Hope things (considering) are well up your way, Jim
  12. Assuming items 1-5 were met, I would be nervous about item 6 also. Based on your facts, the distribution was NOT made because of any of the listed occurences. However, the Instruction booklet is a POOR excuse for Ohio tax law. Have you read aplicable section(s) of the ORC? I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but it may prove useful. Jim
  13. WELL SPOKE KC! Nice quote. Jim
  14. You should also be aware that (unless the policy has changed), Sears will price match most any competitor PLUS refund in cash, 10% of any price difference. Merry Christmas to all of you., Though I rarely post, you all are always in my thoughts and prayers. JIm
  15. For what it's worth, I simply mentioned that "someone" received a discount, and was given the $15.00 price. Jim
  16. "50% of self-prepared returns are wrong, and 90% of those are wrong in the IRS' favor." That has been my sales pitch to potential new clients for years. And they are percentages that have stood the test of time for the 25+ years I have been in this business. They may not always be "big" enough to fix, but when they are, I am a hero for a lot of years. (And they [almost] always lead to referrals.) Jim
  17. I'll always try for 10% above "worst case scenario". Years ago I had to defend a client whose extension was voided because 4868 (liability) was too low. It wasn't fun fight. Jim
  18. Must be the weather, this has been unreal this year. J
  19. There is a "special" KY reciprical return. I do mostly Ohio, so verify WV is the same. WV - report all income, pay tax. KY answer 4 or 5 questions, list Employer, and amount withheld, attach WV return copy. Jim Form is 740NPR
  20. What a day brightener, not the story - a KC Laugh of the day! (I need to get back in my corner and be quiet, so no one knows I'm here) Jim
  21. Rita I knew where you were at, I didn't realize you hadn't seen "Search the Communities". - Control + the mouse wheel is your friend. I've had the (un)"Official" community site's font blown up about 4 knotches for so long, I had forget how hard it was to read at the default size. BTW, I will always consider THIS the Official community. (Though it is nice to have Kamman back at the "other" place.) Jim
  22. Rita, you have to click the search button. (If that is what you're talking about.) I have never seen a "search" that entering text in the search field and pressing ENTER wasn't enough. It's annoying! Jim
  23. Ray it must just be us Buckeyes. I had the same thing happen last year. The look on his face, when I asked about it, was priceless! Jim
  24. Makes me miss JN Mealer that much more! (Hope I remember the name correctly.) Jim
  25. And let's not forget: "I don't have to pay Social Security because I'm already drawing it!" Even had a payroll client call me to complain. "Don't withhold SS on Employee X, because she said 'she doesn't have to pay it anymore'." I should've been a barber. Jim
