Hi Guys and Gals, It's been over 5 years since I got laid off from ATX in Caribou, but the local "rumor mill" composed of my former co-workers made me want to visit this community again. WOW. I considered a lot of you as friends and feel really bad for all of the trouble you are having. You are just trying to make a living. I wince when I read about the crashes, support issues and hold times. I was a Sales rep and Customer Service Manager for ATX back in the day...can't say as I would want that job this year. Anyway, I just wanted to say a quick hello and wish everyone well Kerry7 points

Crap, even W-2s were later this year. And the tax season is 74 days instead of 102 like last year. It's been hell. And the damn worksheet I was working on last night didn't save and I have to start all over again. It's a spreadsheet, not ATX. I'm about to have a meltdown over a frikkin spreadsheet. You think I'm tired?4 points

Hi Elrod, I never said i didn't miss ATX, I do. That was a great job with great people. I also miss working with people like you as customers. Others...well, not so much sometimes lol. William is still here in Caribou working at the Chamber of Commerce. I saw him just yesterday at the grocery store with a cake but didn't get a chance to talk to him. I am glad to see all of you are doing well and still welcoming an ol' salesman! Kerry3 points

I have been developing that conversation in whats left of my mind. "I will renew & pay when I have a working copy installed and have done a shakedown cruise. Otherwise I will have to jump ship" Ship me the software (no download) and I will pay for it when it works. Unlike this year when the product did not work until the very last minute and cost us Thousands of dollars in revenue as well as days and hours of production. And CCh had my money for a whole year.3 points

One week for me. I plan to have all extensions in place next Friday the 12th. Office will be closed from then until Apr 22 - goin' to the beach for a week. (A getaway does wonders for the "letdown" thing...)2 points

Only once? That has to be a record. Why do they always wait to tell you they have changed banks until after it is filed?2 points

I heard somewhere the glue balls cause you to lose your memory . . . but I forget where I heard that2 points

Thirty three years of doing the same thing, and I still get excited at season end. Do any of you's notice a slight form of depression after the finale' ?1 point

Point made Catherine. I accompanied my wife to the grocery store the other night after a 17 hour day and she asked me what I would like and I just stopped the cart and looked at her and could not even think what to say nor could I even speak. After several seconds the only thing I could come up with is "I am through making decisions for the day". I think for all of us (if I can be so bold to speak for all of us) fatigue and exhaustion have found their home.1 point

Wow! Good to hear from you, Kerry!! Hope you & your family are doing well. It's been a while since we had seen you on here. I'm sure your kids are growing like weeds Take care & don't be a stranger. Eli1 point

Hi Kerry -- Great to hear from you -- congratulations on the TWO little girls. They grow up SO fast so enjoy! My toddler will be 23 in June and my newborn just turned 20 last month. I still half-expect to hugs at the kneecap level; instead they're both taller than I am. Those who know me in person know that's not so much... but still!1 point

So good to see you again, Kerry! Please stick around and keep us company. I had forgotten how much I missed you!!1 point

Drive it like you stole it. Run like Julia Roberts is waiting at the finish line with a super stuffed burrito.1 point

Yes, this is a Community in a very real sense, and we want to keep it that way. Of course, everyone gets a bit 'on edge' this time of year.. Too much caffeine, too little sleep, too many procrastinating clients trying to put their problems on us.......... We just need to remember we are all friends here, trying to help each other. And that the ATX employees we have contact with are just trying to do their jobs. They are not the ones making corporate decisions.1 point

Howdy Kerry....You really don't miss ATX? Do you hear anything about William?....I miss all you old dudes.1 point

Greetings Kerry! It is wonderful to see your post. You assisted me on many occasions back in "the good ole days". Please do NOT be stranger to this forum!1 point

Hey, Kerry, we've missed hearing from you. Glad to know you are still around. Hope all is well with you and yours.1 point

Hi Kerry and it is indeed good to hear from you and I remember you quite well. You were very helpful back in the good ole ATX days. I, for one, am not using ATX anymore and have not since the second year after the CCH take over. It's been TaxWorks for me but that has gone south as well. I'm sure the folks using ATX would love to have you back helping them. But for you, I guess you're better off not having that job this year as you say and I hope things are going well for you. I feel there are multiple reasons for all the trouble this year and it seems odd that ATX, TaxWorks, TRX and some others have had trouble while some haven't had any trouble at all. Hopefully, they all will recover.1 point

And send in the change of address form (8822?) asap so if/when the check comes back they know where to re-send it.1 point

I think my clients think the same of me! My dog looking for pets, a fluffy kitty in their lap, and at this point, if I'm awake they're lucky. I've been wearing my slippers lately to meet clients.1 point

That's the sort of thing they pay you for. And well worth whatever you charge for the time.1 point

Given the delays from brokerage houses, K1's etc, I'd expect a significant increase in extensions to be normal. It makes no sense for you to half kill yourself to try to keep to normal progress this year.1 point

Ray, call the efile help desk, and MAYBE they can stop the wrong address before the check is mailed. It's sure worth a try.1 point

I have left clothes in the washer for hours and in the dryer for days and in the laudry basket until they get worn. Very little makes it back to the closet this time of year. Oh well, at least they're clean. I can live with wrinkles.1 point
-
I keep copies of all W-2s and 1099s with withholding. I thought this was required to keep these even if efiling. Glue balls, good one Rita!1 point

I'm not sure., but it will be up. I moved up my deadline in my January letter, but apparently a lot of my clients think that it didn't apply to them and are having a cow. I told them when the returns came in that they would be extended, but they thought that I would change my mind. I will be lucky to get done the ones that came in before the deadline.1 point

For the record, you should calculate FMF of the house at the time of death of her husband and increase the basis by half of the gain of the house. So, 8 years ago (when the husband died and the market was good) the house might have reached the FMV of $144K. That means that the gain at that point was $114K (144K-30K). The basis the house was at that moment $30 plus half of the 114K which is $58K for a total basis of $88K. In this case, it doesn't matter but if this were a rental property for the last 5 years, it could make a big difference in taxes.1 point

That IRS pub refers to Legacy e-file, not Modernized. ATX supports two prior years, same as business returns now. Nothing limited for 2011. IRS only supported bare bones for 2010 so not every return will qualify. Most states were still legacy last year so it will be hit or miss as far as which prior years states are available.1 point

The people that designed and chose the SSA-1099 format size and those stupid "tear this side off first" type configurations.1 point

Eric--- double dittos to everything everyone else has said. Thanks, amigo! If we're going to go first name, I'm Jerry (the second J in my handle is for my BWJ (beautiful wife Jeanie).1 point

oh I like the glue balls on the SSA. They're quite chewy once you get used to the taste. (and much cheaper than gum)1 point

And the glue balls on Form SSA-1099. Grrr. And the W-2's put out by my great county government with the carbon paper in there, and the numbers are always on top of a line. But, other than that...1 point

Just beware with Square! I've heard some horror stories of money getting held up for months at a time -- and they have NO customer service phone number.1 point
