Throughout my many years, ATX has always maintained one point of reliability....regardless of other issues, I (and my clients) could always count on one thing: If I transmitted a return on April 15th, it would be considered timely filed by IRS (rejections and re-submits aside). Now it appears that ATX hs broken that trust. Kimmie's statement in another post is that ATX "thinks" these returns transmitted on 04/15 will be considered timely filed even though they have a date stamp of 04/16 as received by EFC. "THINKS'?! That's all I need to know...trust broken. Forever.2 points

Don't feel sad, tell your clients the truth, "Hey you waited till the last minute to bring in your info and the system overloaded because of last minute filers like you". I have a couple still being transmitted but there is nothing I can do2 points

Tax Works and Tax Act just did not like the lack of some of the forms, etc Tax Slayer too new to the Prof Market and I have been a Ginny pig enough this year with ATX. Tax Wise and Pro System both CCH products so would not even look at. Pro Series (PS) price was about the same with all forms, states and multi user. Locked in for 5 years price. The learning curve not bad and have not touched ATX since I have been with PS and I am moving faster and catching up. I was able to Batch Print all of my 7004s in minutes. Conversion only took 2 days (gave them to them on Sat about 12 and had back Monday morning) I had about 500 files. If you are interested please email me and I will email you the guy I worked with because I went in with other ATX users to work out a price and they all switched at that time but I told him there may be more and would he honor the price. So I think with the amount of people I started with we received a very good price, just a few hundred more than what I org paid for ATX. Locked in for 5 years and in 5 years I will worry about that at that time. Over all I am VERY pleased with Pro Series and look forward to it doing more than ATX can do. I was a loyal customer to ATX for over 15 years (all the way back to when they were Tax Byte) and I do not like changes especially this time of year. But the amount of time I had and knew I would waste staying out weighted the learning curve. PS has good customer support and most is on line with a great web site and community. I have no regrets moving only I did not do it sooner.1 point

Christian, What I do is........Create new folder on the desktop. ..........................Copy the atx database client files to it. ..........................Then paste that file to a cd. Original files stay intact on computer, and I also have an exact copy on a cd. Hope this helps Ya. Elrod1 point

Personally, I'm displeased that posts of this nature are even in this room.1 point

I also limit myself to amend or to let the TP know the consequences of his actions and go back to the job I was hired for, which was to prepare current year's tax return. I don't talk bad about the previous tax preparer and I expect other preparers don't talk bad about me because they were not present when I interviewed my client. In short, I agree with Jainin that unless you were a fly and you were present during the visit, you don't know the whole story.1 point

Jack, I thought it obvious to be a rhetorical question and not to be taken seriously. I sincerely feel bad for those of you that stuck it out with ATX and for the emotional toll and financial damage that it has caused. For those of you that had success using ATX, well...congratulations to you, but I think you are in a small minority of ATX users.1 point

The return will be tagged with a timestamp of when you transmitted it to ATX. When it is sent to the IRS is not the timestamp that is important.1 point

Catherine, I'm so relieved to hear you & your family are OK. I wish all those who were injured a speedy & complete recovery.1 point

>>She has decided to give 100% to her son (which is a 9y/o) for college.<< What an awesome gift! And you have just the tax savings for her--a 529 plan. She will get a decade or more of absolutely tax-free growth, which can be used not only for tuition but even living expenses when the student goes to college. A variation is to lock in today's costs with prepaid tuition credits. That is attractive since education costs seem to be rising faster than general investment yields. See Pub 970, and have her contact your local state university.1 point

Back in my HR Block days a young couple expecting their first child came in get their taxes done. The husband was very attentive to his wife, occasionally she would tense up and he would grab her hand. I asked them if anything was wrong; he responded that his wife was in labor and they had stopped in to have their taxes done before going to the hospital. Fastest return I every prepared!1 point

But doesn't converting it to a rental cause it to become biz property and then when you subtract the adjusted gross basis and divide by the subtrahend after taking the six month non-residence deduction you end up with a loss that causes you to get a refund larger than the sum of the credits to which you and all your relatives are eligible??!?! Or something like that?1 point

Well, it is goodbye to the tax season. But many of us will be around here throughout the year. First of all, there's the matter of extensions - sometimes the most interesting questions arise after Apr 15. Secondly, there's the ongoing technical discussion about how ATX progresses in developing the program. Thirdly, there's the interesting marketing issue of how they manage their damage control. Lastly, there may be a discussion looming about the name & direction of this forum in the future. Many of us are unlikely to be ATX users in the future, but we still appreciate the tremendous benefits of having an independent forum regardless of our choice of vendor. We should have a conversation about how best to keep it active and relevant to both ATX users and non-ATX'ers.1 point

I know that not everyone had issues with speed, crashing etc, BUT I do not understand why you still don't have concerns with the new ATX, and are still not seeing things that need fixing. ATX removed a ton of important features that were part of the previous years software. These at a minimum should be on your list. To name just a few: 1. Spreadsheets 2. Ability to Unprotect forms 3. Ability to Customize calculations 4. In Cell calculations 5. Import of Quickbooks 6. Import of W-2's 7. Full Featured FAM with complete history past and future (here I may be at a loss, since I now buy the Stand Alone FAM, I get that inside ATX also, so don't know what those of you that did not buy that see.) 8. Ability to make custom Modules and full featured Templates by integrating forms and customizing the links and formulas simultaneously. (I had personally built a custom incorporation package using several of the above features) 9. Ability to Export Forms to Excel (I used to find this feature invaluable now I have to download a PDF and laboriously create the form, and without the ability to link across to other forms) 10. Ability to see the Calc Sheet to determine both why something is happening and FIX programing mistakes quickly, before ATX can do the same (Multiple times I found I could manipulate the calc sheet to fix or add a feature - GONE NOW)1 point

You probably have a corrupt form. Try using the replace forms in return feature in the return manager.1 point

THEY HAVE TOTALLY MISSED THE BOAT. HOW THEY CAN NOT BE THINKING OF GOING BACK TO 2011 IS UNTHINKABLE. TO TRY AND QUANTIFY THE REASONS IS MADDING.EITHER THEY DO OR WE GO TO ANOTHER VENDOR. I AM NETWORKED WITH 6 STATIONS WINDOWS XP PRO. THE SLOWNESS IS UNMERCIFUL. TO DO EXTENSIONS OF TIME IS 10-25 MINUTES DEPENDING ON SIZE OF FILE. MOST FILES MY STAFF IS SAYING 20 MINUTES. WE ALL REMEMBER HOW EASY LAST TAX SEASON WAS WITH 2011 PROGRAM. MY STAFF HAS BEEN WORKING NONSTOP TOP TRY AND MAKE UP FOR THE SLOWNESS. MY IT GUY SAYS THERE IS NO FIX TO THIS PROGRAM. WE ARE USING 12.11 SINCE WE WENT TO THIS WE HAVE SLOWED DOWN EVEN MORE AND DO NOT DARE UPDATE. HOPE YOU ALL GET THROUGH THIS AND I DO HOPE ATX IS LISTENING REMEMBER WITH 31,000 CUSTOMERS AT AN AVERAGE 1,400 PICK A FIGURE, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT $40,000,000 BUSINESS. COMPETITORS ARE BEATING AT OUR DOORS TO SWITCH. I TOLD THEM ALL GOING EVALUATE IN JUNE.1 point

There are so many things that 2011 did that 2012 doesn't . You could just type V and various would pop up in 2011 - not in 12. IF you were a check the box designee it would fill in the form for the state in 11, not in 12. Hit efile and it will only give you the 12 efile errors to repair and then you have run it again to get the state. Software input and execution efficiency is measure by keystrokes required and 12 is much more intensive in the number keystrokes to get to the same place. Plus the really big issue is process time. For a test we did a return in 11 and 12 and it took 1/2 the time in 11.1 point

I have been a customer of ATX going back to the Klienrock days when they were in Maryland. Since CCH purchased ATX the customer service has reached such an abysmal level that I don't intend to use their product anymore. The straw that broke the camels back was my faxing them a 5 page (less cover sheet) detailed problem we have been experiencing with 4797 and disposals where the disposal won't drop off the 4797 no matter what you do. And that means going to the extreme of deleting the assets! We sent the fax on 3/29 and through today (4/10/13), not one word. I just called, and there is a thirty minute wait for a CSR. Five days before the 15th, and a 30 minute wait. Either they have one CSR for the who company or there are so many problems they are still overwhelmed. Neither a indication of a healthy company or one that values their customers. ATX has become a pathetic excuse for tax software. Obviously CCH doesn't care about its customers. The program has become a hurry up and wait for execution. Based on their atrocious service and failure to properly vet their softwarte well before tax season, ATX just can't be trusted anymore. Its only common sense to move on to someone else that is more responsible. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice - shame on me. They won't get another crack at my pocketbook. I'm jumping ship.1 point

I will say this much - it will take a lot of courage and guts for Brandon and other ATX sales reps to start calling us after tax season about early renewal discounts. All the ATX sales reps should be given hazard pay for what will be coming soon...but then again, we are talking about CCH, and they don't appear to take their ATX customers...or their employees...very seriously.1 point

Proseries has sent me the program with one license to try for the remainder of the season, I was so surprised, because everyone had been reaching out and attempting to get my business. I will take a look, but unsure of what I am doing at this point. Not renewing in 2013 that is for sure1 point
