  1. All I tell my people is: "Since you owe $2,000 for 2010, they will penalize you $500 for not filing, $500 for not paying and then you will have interest calculated for each year. So technically, the amount you owe will almost double, but the IRS will gladly calculate everything for you". Some people say "But I want to know now".... my answer is "This return was due 7 years ago and all the sudden it is urgent????"

  3. I'm never going to print most of those. Only an idiot could turn a 2 page form into 8 pages that are mostly white space and brag about it being an improvement. Paper companies are probably drooling over how much more paper they will sell.

  4. What I do in a situation like this is I tell the client there will be penalties and interest then I let the IRS calculate the numbers, which I double check of course. This approach lets the IRS be the bad guy, instead of me. Then if I find a mistake, saving the client money, I can be the bearer of good news, sort of.

Client received a letter from the IRS that starts off "Dear Taxpayer: We recently sent you a letter in error thanking you for the information you sent............We had already resolved the issue you on your account..........................." Heretofore, I had never seen the IRS revoke a thank you! What IS this world coming to?

  11. This has been said by the IRS for decades. Why don't they target the easiest cheats there are. S-Corp owners that do not take a salary at all. What a bunch of of male bovine scat.

I received a similar response from an IRS agent yesterday, I have prepared 941 and 940 from 2008 to 2016 (over the years), as of yesterday the IRS has no record of my client ever filing, they show payments towards 944 for 2016 which we never filed. Client has always been a 941 filer, I have digital copies of all the years and this stinks for my client.

  14. Schedule 2+4 and 3+5 are obvious candidates to be combined on the same form. I think one of two things is likely happening here: 1) Someone is under orders from the current administration to create "post card-size forms"; or 2) Someone is intentionally producing something incredibly stupid in an effort to make the current administration look bad.

  16. It seems like every time there is a Microsoft update I lose some functionality! Old software automatically becomes obsolete and printing problems ensue as well. I have contacted Microsoft and they resolved some of my issues as they are certainly aware of this charade!

  18. Agree, I once calculated a penalty by the state by a few dollars more and the state said they will not refund the extra money to my client. Another client where I prepared a couple years back never received a bill for some years from the IRS, called to find out the status was told if my client hasn't heard back from the IRS it's all good, client was going to setup a payment plan after the IRS had calculated all the fees.
