  1. Your husband and I have a lot in common
  2. Thank you so much Judy. It was a long week, and I was a little worried for awhile thinking the necklace will only be found if and when we move. But with all the encouragement around here I could not give up. I also did Elaine's happy dance when I found it!
  3. I have for someone with Canadian bank accounts but it was during the amnesty program which has ended. We did the Streamlined Filing program which may or may not be available to your client. She will be liable for some penalties but I think if you have good reason they could be waived, at least that was the case during the amnesty time period. Check out the FBAR website. I also have one with an Italian bank account whose doctor told her not to file, people always listen to their doctors and barbers.
  4. Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and a special thanks to our leader Judy for teaching me an important lesson. Don't trust yourself to remember something that may cause a problem if you forget.
  5. I hid the card and gift under her morning workout clothes as she hits the home gym before I'm up, so she had a nice surprise. That evening we had a great dinner at Caffe Italia in Marblehead. I wanted to see the sunset but the extra glass of wine took precedence. Yes, she was thrilled and very happy, so was I. I knew you would ask so I took a couple of pictures of the Murano glass necklace and her shoes, she loves shoes.
  6. Ha! Even I missed it. But it is good to know that people around here care about each other that they say something. That says a lot about them, a good heart, character, kindness, and sincerity.
  7. Yes we do, that's what friends are for.
  8. Hi Elrod, I didn't find anything offensive, ever from you. In fact I think you're a graphics and comedic wizard and enjoy your postings immensely, always makes me laugh. Don't stop because you make our day with your humor, a good laugh will always add to our lives. You're one of the best Elrod, and we are honored that you take the time to keep posting in your retirement. And thank you for thinking the way you do. Love you brother, Bill PS, if you are talking about Kramer driving, well, you weren't far off, he was driving to CA, I was driving to Walgreens listening to 60s on 6
  9. You're fine to file one return in NY. Catherine is correct, 10 is the magic number. NYC is not so scary, just way too crowded, and prices for parking spots are like condos
  10. My method for that dreaded message is Control panel>Administrative tools>Services then Start or Re Start each ATX year from 2013 on. I think Abby has a shorter method but this one only takes less than a minute. Good luck. Also Payroll 18 hiccups too from time to time.
  11. Yes, but there is always next year, I hope she still has the box they came in.
  12. Whew! Found it. Was in a winter coat pocket, nobody would think to look there, I was right. Also found my draft card, my college ID with a picture of someone who looks like Che Guevara, and a money clip with an inscription from an old girlfriend (better scratch that up). Thank you all for your well wishes and support. Elrod had me down to a T, as soon as she left I went wild, because 3 hours can go very fast when you are under the gun. Oh shoot, got to run out.....to get a card.
  13. Would you like to sell a pair? I still can't find the necklace and jewelry store doesn't have it anymore. She has a hair appointment tomorrow, 3 hours (the full boat, color and all) so I will be tearing apart the house.
  14. Yes, excellent advice, always have a backup, and don't think to yourself, I'll remember where it is. My wife's birthday is Friday and she saw a nice necklace that she pointed out to me months ago. I bought it right away and hid it somewhere. Hid it so good I can't find it. I wish you posted months ago, you may have saved me from buying two necklaces.
  15. Every year I push all my procrastinators to be done by the 10th because this week in parts of MA and surroundings is prime fall foliage viewing. I try to get points for scheduling viewing at the right time, to make up for the rest of the year of missed non work opportunities. Life isn't all about work, I heard that somewhere.
  16. Maybe a first time abatement? Since he does gravel and files late he could grovel for forgiveness.
  17. Where's today's Samuel Gompers now that we need him. The public could also use some education about what, how, and what it takes to do what we do.
  18. I couldn't agree with you more about this board, it is truly a great help for us, especially during the season. I'm also happy that ATX has all the local PA forms from Berkheimer/Keystone with the various local tax rates. A lot of my retired clients moved from NY to Poconos to avoid tax on their pensions, not sure they are happy with all the snow. One told me they have two seasons, winter and getting ready for winter.
  19. No, only for earned income, same as all other PA localities. The sale of the home is excluded if she lived there 2 of the last 5 years and did not sell a previous home within the last 2 years. The pensions, SS, and IRAs are not taxable in PA.

    Wedding!

Beautiful, congratulations to all. I couldn't help but notice that the maid of honor's hair color matches her dress. That's impressive.
  21. You can't be that tired because you are correct, calendar year trusts are due 9/30, 5 1/2 months after original due date.
  22. Eighteen years is a long time, but not in respect to 9/11 as that day remembered by Americans seems like recent memory. As a former NYC firefighter my memory is reinforced everyday. Seeing the children of friends lost that day, now grown up, hearing the hoarseness in the voices of friends who now have permanent respiratory illnesses, and talking to those who are continuing rounds of chemo therapy and radiation, 9/11 is present in daily lives of so many firefighters and police officers. Remembering the days after 9/11 there was a shower of kindness from around the world. Firehouses were decorated with flowers, messages, and photos. People brought food with tears in their eyes, and hugs were all around us, there were a lot of hugs. Firefighters let it be known to the wives and children of those lost that they now have many surrogate fathers in the firehouse who will always be there for them. This continues to this day as we've watched the children grow up, go to college, and get married. We're still there for them. Please keep all those lost and their families in your prayers, they still need it more than ever. Never Forget, Bill
  23. Jerry was worried his wife was losing her hearing so he asked his doctor about it. Doc said give her a hearing test. Say something in a normal voice and keep getting closer until she hears you and you'll know how bad is her hearing. Jerry goes home and at 40 feet he asks Linda what's for dinner. No answer. Tries again at 30, 20, and 10 feet with no responses. Finally Jerry walks up behind Linda and asks her "what's for dinner Honey?" Linda swings around and says "Jeez A Lou Jerry, for the friggin' 4th time CHICKEN!"
  24. I remove the hard drive, put it in a vise and drill holes through it, a lot of holes and the process feels like therapy because I feel good that I have moved on to a new computer.
  25. I have a client that I hear from about every 3 or 4 years. I charge a steep amount and payment up front as I prepare each year. You can get transcripts for current year and then 3 years back.. I understand you can call their automated number or file the 4506 form for the prior years. If you take this client on be good to yourself (pricing) and don't let client slow you down. If he's 8 years behind he's a grand procrastinator so get ready for some tough love.
