Absolutely beautiful.....I loved the little boy with the android tablet.

I really wasn't. However, my assistant might as her business is graphic art. I guess she would have to find out if there are any copyright issues before she could sell any. It was a blow when the IRS discontinued the preparer package; but when you could no longer order the stickers, it was a major blow. No matter which way you turn these days, you get less for more.

I use Swingline. Why do they want to unstaple them? If they need a page or two, I will gladly print one for them.

I use folders from Tenenz and I don't differentiate between clients. They are all equally as important. I use the ones where MY information shows in the window. ( I designed that cover sheet many years ago and have it saved so that I can print off fifty or so at a time.) I use the same color folder every year. However, I affix a two-sided Year sticker to the spine and these are always a different color. I put a label on the cover below the window with the client's name. I also (if it is the case) put the oval e-file logo sticker on the lower right side at an angle. The clients love it. I get those year stickers on Ebay for pennies, usually from a Dr. who has a partial box left over from the year before. They can also be purchased from Smead, but I like the larger ones. When I see some of the packages that come from the big box preparers and even some CPA's, I shudder. If I were a golfer, I would also be playing at the public course. However, that is no reason not to provide my clients with a nice presentation of their return. (Lion, my assistant is a graphic artist and she is making me a pattern for that e-file sticker that the IRS no longer provides for either free or fee. She already has the logo made. I know you were using those too.)

There was a login discussion a while ago about this. It seems that it matters how you input the user name. For some it is Admin; mine has always been admin and some might be all upper case. If changing that around doesn't work; try changing your password.

Amend to keep it clean.

Should I downgrade my PC to Window 7 Professional

Randall, I guess you are. I would be at a loss without USB number pad for my laptop. I love that new laptop has one built in, as well as a 17" monitor. -

My back and neck ache just to think of reaching across the desk to touch the monitor. Anyway, I am left-handed (very) and use the mouse with my right hand. Can do the calculator or number pad easiest with right hand, though could use both. I guess this is because back in the day there were no concessions made for left handers. Everyone told me that I would never be able to learn how to type, write shorthand or use a calculator. All of my life, when I was told I couldn't do something because of being left handed; it was like lighting a fire under a powder keg. I learned how to knit by watching my mother-in-law's hands in a mirror. So, I get to hold the pencil in my left hand and use my right for the number pad. -
No Way........we work very well together. This is super stress time for him, but he still took the time on Sunday to do some updates and adjustments to two of my computers, remotely. Generally, IT's first thought is "wireless" as that is what so many people want. Also, he works all day at a factory job and now, at his busiest time of the year, has to take three weeks off to go from WI to AZ for his daughter's wedding. Often, I am able to help him out. I choose and purchase all of my own equipment; he sets it up and maintains it. I take care of his tax issues. I am at the top of his priority list at all times. Nobody knows the answer to everything; just as we don't know all of the tax laws without research.

Funny that you should say that because I asked my IT person on Saturday if there was a gizmo whereby I could connect two computers; one desktop and one laptop; both USB to one USB printer. He hadn't heard of anything but said he would check. I checked myself and found just what I was looking for on Amazon on Sunday. Only $12.99 and exactly what I want and the reviews are all five stars.

I normally send out a letter in December; more of a reminder that I am still in business. In it, I offer the option of an Organizer which can be e-mailed, mailed or picked up. Just had one picked up today. New client is leaving for Az next week and wants to work on it while he is gone. Really, I find that if they want an organizer they will not be shy about asking for it. For years I sent them to most of my clients and always to businesses. However, I found that only certain clients filled it out consistently. Many brought it back empty, which was OK. What was not OK was the ones who didn't even bring it back for me to use. After a few years, you find out what most of them are going to want.

ATX allows you to change the font size. The default is, I believe, 10. I have always had to change it to 9 in order to make long names fit and it also looks decent on the other labels.
-
I will have to have my assistant show me how to do this when she comes in. I have never learned to master either Word or Excel; simply because there has been no need.
-
All good things to you, Eric. You have done so much for us. Have a great day and I hope it is warm wherever you are. We are close to zero degrees right now.

My tablet is password protected, but also has a program on it called "Where's My Droid?" If I keep the info I need in my safe, it will track my hardware. However, the best protection is myself. I never leave electronics in my car or lying around for anyone to see. That is not to say that theft can't happen, but it's like I was taught from a little girl on, "Don't ever take your hand off of your purse when you are out of your house." and pretty generally, I never do.

OOPS! Try .25 inch first. Since it was an issue last year and never has been in the past, I am surprised and disappointed that ATX didn't correct this. Two years ago, I asked for more flexibility in printing labels. (such as in being able to pick the start spot on the sheet of labels). Since this fiasco, I will never mention labels to them again.

You can use Avery 5160. If I recall correctly from last year, you have to adjust the top margin about 1/2 inch larger to make them line up. You can look at it in Print Preview.

In our case, he didn't quite laugh. He did say that the IRS is not interested in what the divorce papers say. IRS law overrides civil law. They both signed the tax return so they are each liable for the entire amount of the tax owed. Besides that, we have community state laws to deal with.

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2014, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be: 56 cents per mile for business miles driven 23.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations The business, medical, and moving expense rates decrease one-half cent from the 2013 rates. The charitable rate is based on statute. The standard mileage rate for business is based on an annual study of the fixed and variable costs of operating an automobile. The rate for medical and moving purposes is based on the variable costs. Taxpayers always have the option of calculating the actual costs of using their vehicle rather than using the standard mileage rates. A taxpayer may not use the business standard mileage rate for a vehicle after using any depreciation method under the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) or after claiming a Section 179 deduction for that vehicle. In addition, the business standard mileage rate cannot be used for more than four vehicles used simultaneously.

I have heard of someone wearing a piece of clothing, such as a dress, for an entire day, for an event; and then sending it back for a refund.
-
Didn't hold any water. He never reported the income on the return.
-
Correct. I just had a client who got tapped for 2009 income from EXXON that her x-husband did not report. They divorced in 2010 and 2009 was the last year they filed MFJ. Since they can't find him and she is a solid citizen with a good job; she gets to pay. This was restitution income from the Alaskan oil spill which happened long before she met him. Didn't matter. MFJ rules

I didn't mean that she saved the gift; what I meant was that she saves the wrapping paper.

And the really nice thing is that the program allows you to do that.
