Psshhh, gimme a Band Aid, I'm good. But I had to reprint the bloody tax return.8 points

Don't stick your finger anywhere on the anvil of your heavy duty stapler when it jams. Or when it pretends to jam. Or any other time. You're welcome.7 points

Yes, extensions should be filed for any returns not expected to be filed by the 15th, or any case where there is uncertainty about whether it will be filed on time. This should be done irrespective of whether there is a balance due or a refund showing in the return. You never know when a client forgot to give you some income info , or one or more of their deductions turns out to be incorrect. So even though the original return showed a refund, if the examination shows a balance due on the original return, a FTF penalty will be assessed. You don't want to be in the middle of that. A "protective" extension solves all those problems.7 points

Why reprint the return? Just label it so the client knows what it is and move on. That's the courtesy they would show us!6 points

Ouch!! Should we ask what brought about this public service announcement and how long you will take to get back the use of your finger? My main stapler problem has been periodic bending of the big heavy-duty ones before they get through the paper -- on one side only (and the side is not consistent so it's not the stapler). Then I get to spend several minutes wrestling with the mucked-up staple, dismembering it (they're brittle) and extricating the mortal remains without ruining my nicely-printed return. Sigh.6 points

My experience is that clients can forgive mistakes easily....even the embarrassing ones. They've all made mistakes too...we're all human after all. What really matters is accepting repsonsibility and offering a solution, even if it means that you need their help to get it done. I offer the same respect/compassion to professionals that perform services for me because thats how I want to be treated when it is my turn.6 points

Created a new return for dependent child, but by mistake put in father's SSN. Fortunately, the son's first name was after the father's alphabetically, so the son's efile was rejected due to the duplication of SSN. If it was the other way around, that would have created a very embarrassing scenario for me to explain! From now on, I will efile the parent's first, wait for the ack, then efile all the kiddies afterwards.5 points

I am................... Just paying off all the credit card balances that build up over the slow months of 1 oct-jan. Monday I pay my own extensions and just sit here answering questions from clients that had their returns for weeks but only look at them on the 14th and 15th. then off to Vegas!!!!!!!!!!!!! first time there.5 points

There was both blood and extensive bleeping. Not gonna lie. Oh, one more thing: Stay up to date on tetanus shots. Carry on.5 points

That's hilarious. I am looking at one now with "Dr. Pepper" written in and an arrow to the offending spot. There is now.4 points

5 EIN's ??? Man, just knowing that would triple his fee. File an extension, then in May, go to his office and dig for the paperwork on those before you try to do anything on his return. On the clock, of course. During that visit you MIGHT be able to teach the girlfriend at least a few things to help.4 points

still have a black nail from an earlier anvil event. can still eat my popcorn........... :pop:4 points

I would applaud the warning but I cannot get this staple out of my finger.4 points

Like I have always heard: "The only people who don't make mistakes are dead people" or "The only people who don't make mistakes are people that don't do anything"4 points

Lesson learned. I appreciate hearing of "stupid mistakes" as they make me feel better knowing I'm not the only one. And I realized my most recent stupid mistake certainly wont be my last. Im amazed I dont have more given the increasing pressure and time constraints brought on by tax season.4 points

It is truly wonderful that this community has remained so strong, thanks primarily to Eric and KC, for so long. It is also wonderful that so many of us go back even further, maybe as far as 1997 when I joined ATX users, and still remain a family, colleagues always ready to help each other and welcome new folks all the time. I know my practice would not be what it is without my virtual office here at this community. Thanks to all for keeping on!4 points

A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren to their home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said one child. "No," said another. "He's just for good luck.." A third child brought the argument to a close."They use the dogs," she said firmly, "to find the fire hydrants."3 points

File extensions, send a sympathy card, and include a note that you will contact them in a month or six weeks to finish up.3 points

KC is correct IF Rita meant there was actual blood on the return when she said, "But I had to reprint the bloody tax return." Replace "bloody" with "bleeping" or better yet "frikkin" since this is the ATX Community and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for the laughs RitaB. I'd "like" your posts, but I've run out already.3 points

Everytime I see the word "Anvil" I think of poor Wiley E Coyote and the 'Anvil" falling on his head... I have 3 different Staplers. I autostaple for the 2 efile signature pages, 1 mid size Ratchet up to 60 pages, and the big Kuhuna heavy duty one for more than 60 pages.. I really hate when the big Kahuna jams. Usually have to reprint because of the bleeding involved.3 points

I agree! Just man up, accept responsibility, apologize, and remind them we are people who have to do a whole year's work in 4 months!!!!!3 points

Yeah, but we would all feel better because we've done a lot worse. Embarrassing scenarios are underrated.3 points

This site is my sanity break. Thank you Eric for keeping this site alive. Happy Birthday!!! and Happy Birthday to KC, who is always there to help. I have been with ATX since 1997 also (Still have the 1997 CD's), when I switched from Parsons to ProSeries (Very Costly). Thank you everyone for all of your insights and help. I was a lerker for a long time, much more productive being interactive. I still love to see all of RitaB's Posts the best, they make my day. She could be a Stand Up Comedian in her off Tax Season. Thank you again everyone! Hope everyone survives the end of Tax Season. At least next week I am off from my "Normal" day job, and can concentrate on my remaining tax returns and extensions!. It's probably deducted as part of the guaranteed payments to the partner, and that's why it's subject to SE tax. If the premiums weren't paid out of the partnership, then the partner would have higher income flowing through as ordinary trade or business income, so the SE income and SE tax would be the same anyway.2 points

I have emailed Drake twice this season and received the usual "will respond in x amount of hours or days" (can't remember which). Barely had time to delete the message when the answer arrived. Totally impressed with the software AND support.2 points

We don't even have four months any longer for tax season. By the time IRS opens up, then you have to wait for the 1099's. One of my Wells Fargo client's has had four amended 1099's already. Several of mine had problems even getting 1099R's. I am seriously exhausted.2 points

Many thanks to Eric & KC for setting up this forum, and thank you to all of you who contribute your valuable time to participate. Like others, I have learned much on this forum, saved myself much research time in a few situations, and definitely saved some money in other situations. And the laughs & chuckles are priceless. And a special Happy Birthday to KC. Hope you have a great one.2 points

I had a return extension yesterday that the state rejected. I left it be, to deal with today. Never got there -- DRAKE support called ME to let me know the state (only) rejected the extension (some stupid spurious character in a state field), and wanted to walk me through fixing it. WOW.1 point

More extensions than ever in my life. New clients are still coming in and there are several that I definitely have to finish before Tues. An out of town funeral this weekend isn't helping matters, but people don't choose those kinds of things.1 point

I have one client that brings me treats from one of the best bakeries in town each year, and another that brings Filipino food (homemade adobo this year!), and another brought a 4-pack of RockStars, and I got a box of truly gourmet chocolate. $85 for 36 pieces type chocolate. My god, it spoiled me. More adobo promised on Sunday when he delivers his kids 8879.1 point
