Left over yard sale crap, originally priced at $200, is worth $1,175 when donated. Did y'all know that? I'm thinking y'all did know that. Oh my aching back. "Zip up your jacket, your heart is falling out." - Possi8 points

Me, too. But a close second are the ones filing early and in a mad rush to get their free money. I actually like it when they get another form after filing. I get another tax return to do and can recover some of my own tax dollars.7 points

Ctrl+S early and often. Also, after working for 20 minutes or so, close the client to create a backup. It only takes a second and can save a lot of time and aggravation.6 points

That's what I've done forever. About everything. Close that box. That's my motto about every message I don't like. Who knew?? I'm an IT guy!5 points

Joan - sorry for your loss. My 18 year old cat is fading and I dread the time when I have to make The Decision. We don't get over losing our little pet family members, we just get used to it. It's hard and it sure hurts for some time. FDNY - I think pets have a shorter lifespan than we do is because, given enough time, they would find so many ways to manipulate us with their cuteness that we would be their slaves (more than we are now).4 points

My sense of wonder about all things computer tells me that I am grateful for the opportunity to click on the red "x" and am more grateful when nothing blows up. If I pass that hurdle, I test the waters no further. I simply save and close the return and then the program and then re-open. The urge is there to keep working. But as Medlin mentions, that is probably not the best approach.4 points

An unexpected error is usually some sort of major fail, for which there is no common message to show. Consider such message as neither the application nor operating system having any idea how to gracefully get past the error, usually caused by a programming error in the current application, or another which happens to be running. I would not count on anything working properly after closing the message.4 points

Then there's the ones that take 8 months to get you their info, all along sending emails and placing phones calls to your office. When they finally give everything to you they then expect to be your top priority, and be ready for filing. I wish all forms had to be mailed out by 01/31/2015 subject to automatic penalty without waiver, and that the personal return deadline could be changed to the end of May, and lastly, that all refunds were held and mailed on the last day of tax season to eliminate 99% of the fraud cases. Maybe that makes too much sense though.4 points

I have a very smart (usually) very highly paid client who has been driving me nuts about her Form 1095-B that her HR department told her she needed but won't get for a few more weeks. Yes, we already e-filed. But, she's been with the same employer for years; and yes, I asked her if she had health coverage every month in 2015 and if there were any changes. I've explained to her three times since she got the HR email that all is well. Not to mention that when I acknowledged her e-file acceptance I included a paragraph about her receiving a new Form 1095-B later, that we already accounted for it, but to please send me a copy and put her original in her 2015 tax folder along with her W-2 and other tax documents in the pocket - all in writing to her days ago. She didn't remember anything I wrote her. She remembered the HR memo INcorrectly. Finally she reread the HR memo, and I resent her my earlier email. But, still another set of panicked concerns. We'll see if it's sunk in yet.4 points

I also have plenty of TP's who can't get their act together till the last minute then expect me to hurry up. I dislike them the most3 points

Click on the small x in the top right corner of the error message box. This closes the message box without closing ATX and allows you to save your return before restarting ATX. I've actually just kept working after closing the message and not had any problems2 points

Like some others, I use Fujitsu ScanSnap and the software that comes with it. My model is S1500 but I think it has been superseded. I love it as it is fast, scans both sides and is compact. Best $400 I spent in my practice. I also have Win 7 Pro, they play very well together for me. I also have Scansoft Paperport which came with my Brother MFC. Works great, too.2 points

Thanks to Lynn! She is one of the best aspects of this great board. So sorry that she is in New Orleans, Mardi Gras central, and working. Let's hope she gets at least a little fun in yet. Lynn, thanks again for your assistance!2 points

Engineering programs are very specific as I have been learning. My son wants Mechanical Engineering. A school ranked great for lets say Bioengineering might not be for Mechanical and visa versa. He loved Purdue this weekend and has already been accepted. We are waiting for Rochester and Georgia Institutes of Tech and Stevens. Michigan deferred decision. Also money awards aren't announced yet for any of his schools. So far he as 3 acceptances to I am not losing a son, I am gaining a pool room for sure. [a lot of pressure gets relieved once you get your first acceptance and know you are going to college]. Purdue is topped ranked and if he goes onto ROTC also he gets instate tuition which saves like $25k per year but his allergies and asthma might keep him out of that.2 points

Very sorry for your loss Joan. I too know the sadness when a pet passes, but while it seems so unfair that our pets only live a fraction of our lifetimes we can have comfort that we gave our little ones the best life and love they could ever receive from anyone. The time will come when you will be able to give your heart to another, and he or she will add the same to your life again.2 points

So sorry for your loss. Pets are a part of the family and it hurts like losing a family member when they die. Give yourself time.2 points

I think you might be looking at their full service which includes telephone calls etc with voip phones. I just have their eFax service. and if you have a large office, just get it for yourself [linked to 1 email] and you can forward the emails to whomever you need to at your office.1 point

Hey JB.....I know you did my taxes already but I got a 1099 in the mail this past weekend from when I sold some supplements. It was only $25.00, so I just pitched it. Ugh1 point

Yes, that ship has sailed! I also had a client in the past that we did that for and everything was fine, but the law changed when they made the tax credit permanent last year.1 point

Yep, I have one a TP like that. I finished her return and she shows up with a brokerage statement in hand and ask, do you need these? Then when I point out she only has a quarterly statement and that I need the annual statement, she ask "Can we just keep it off for now"1 point

...and Yes, I know my cats cannot understand a word I say, but I always shares stories with them of Smokey....our first beloved cat that paved the way for all future kitties. Regaling them with "tales of the Great Smoky" makes me feel better and eases the pain of losing her a little bit.1 point

Oh Joan....so sorry! I think we all know how devastating this is. Nothing will ever replace the kitties you've lost, but take heart...as you probably know, there will be plenty of furry cuddles to share with future kitty/puppy family members1 point

Oh, Joan, I, too, am so sorry that you've lost this kitty. It is unimaginable to have this happen 3 consecutive years! All of us who have or had have pets know too well the pain in your heart at this time. Several years ago one of our dogs couldn't wait until after busy season but, in a way, having to focus on work helped - a little. How wonderful for you and the kitty that you had each other for whatever length of time was granted.1 point

EVA, thank you. The rules were changed about a month ago by Congress. NO AMENDMENTS to claim EIC.1 point

This doesn't help your situation but a reminder to clients to keep all their annual statements for annuities and insurance policies. With these companies merging so much, it may be impossible to get a history of your accounts.1 point

And yet, how much worse it is for them if we do not make that decision. They depend on us to know better and to act on that knowledge, no matter how much it hurts *us* at the time. Every one who has chosen to feel the pain and guilt, in order to relieve the pain of a pet, gets the reward of a special kind of strengthening in their character for so doing.1 point

My husband's Medicare coverage started in Aug 2015 and he got one too with boxes checked for Aug through Dec. Too bad Part III was completely blank so that it didn't indicate the issuer of the form or coverage provider. I guess that would be too much to expect.1 point
