Not that I won't be here tomorrow working. But there was a time when the kids were young that I would leave early on Good Friday and we would do eggs and make things on Easter Saturday and visit the bunny. At least this year I have promised not to work on Easter Sunday. May the bunny fill your basket full of extensions!7 points

And Happy Easter to everyone here. Our office is never open on Good Friday but I work and am finishing up a couple of complicated returns today. I will work on State Corporate and Partnership extensions tomorrow as well as do our monthly billings. And then I will take the rest of the weekend off. Up early Easter morning for a sunrise service at the local church camp followed by a wonderful brunch and great fellowship, Then it will be time for me to head to the couch for my Easter nap! A Blessed Easter to one and all!6 points

I am working Saturday and Sunday, but I will do egg riddles, hide eggs, stuff a basket for my son (thank you, Amazon), and go to Church, egg hunt, and cook brunch for my family. A blessed Easter to all!6 points

Just checked the ATX User Guide and it only says to 'drag and drop'. I should start a Hidden Features of ATX book and sell it to users for 45 bucks.5 points

ABC qualifies for an exception to the penalty you charged under IRC Section 6698(a)(1), because all two (2) partners, XZ, 222-22-2222, and YZ, 333-33-3333, reported all their shares of income and deductions timely on their joint 2008 income tax return Form 1040. Therefore, the partnership meets the criteria specified in Rev. Proc. 84-35, which says in part: “A domestic partnership composed of 10 or fewer partners and coming within the exception outlined in section 6231(a)(1)(B) of the Code will be considered to have met the reasonable cause test and will not be subject to the penalty imposed by section 6698 for the failure to file a complete or timely partnership return, provided that the partnership, or any of the partners, establishes, if so required by the Internal Revenue Service, that all partners have fully reported their shares of the income, deductions, and credits of the partnership on their timely filed income tax returns.” We trust that you will remove the penalty due to reasonable cause for small companies.4 points

Thought this was to be a WEBINAR too? Maybe even live streaming? Just tie us into Rita's security system cameras and mic's and we can all experience the REAL TN happening (except for the food -- maybe make our own????).4 points

yesterday I had to update my password and when I went into the myatx to find my super secret code to update my password I had to up date my myatx password to get to it. I was ready to scream. Meanwhile I have to do some HUD input online and they make you get a new password every year. All I have to do is give them my mothers maiden name and my new password is always p a s s w o r d. Yeah - that's Ben Carsons department. I keep saying they can trade in their 31000 dining set for a IT guy for 3 weeks to fix their very lame online reporting system. Anyone else ever have to deal with HUD input? This is for a senior living development.4 points

I am in, but only for $25. I am a cheap skate. That is the early sign up period discount - just like ATX. Tom Modesto, CA4 points

I'm working today and Saturday. Church Sunday with an egg hunt/coffee hour. Hubby will make dinner (a nice client provided the ham as a Christmas present, frozen since then until this week). There will probably be naps involved. I've reached a procrastination stage, not a good stage to be in right now. I have about nine returns that don't need a lot of work, just proofreading, printing, uploading to my portal, packaging for mailing, that kind of thing. And, a LOT of returns to start. Just had a client email that she's going out of state to help her daughter move 8 April and won't return until after the deadline; hope she doesn't mind an extension! Happy Easter, everyone; and pause to give thanks for all we have, including this forum!3 points

I have to use NMLS (Nationwide Licensing System) twice a year for one client and I am always astonished that I don't wind up on the six o'clock news. The WOAT. TN sales tax site is trying to overtake them, however. Upgraded (yeah right) their system in MARCH 2017 (who does THAT?) and named it TNTAP. So cute.3 points

I turn my 64 bit Win 7 Pro off at the end of each workday. Yesterday morning, when I came to work Microsoft Security Essentials was turned off, which I am positive I didn't do ! This morning, when I booted up, my system automatically ran a MS OS update, which I always have set to notify me, then I choose when to run the update. When I checked my update settings, it had changed to auto update ? The only new software on my system in the last year is Drake. Does Drake instigate OS setting changes ? I guess it is Friday, maybe I should just go back to bed.2 points

No wonder, I didn't have to wait on line at the PO for a certified mail today. Too bad, it's my only break time talking to other humans. I like when someone says, oh, I need a new tax guy, sorry, not taking on new clients, that feels so good.2 points

Doh! What was I thinking? It makes sense that a tax credit is an income tax credit and the tax in this OP case maybe is more like real estate tax. SaraEA, many thanks for setting me straight.2 points

ZAP! If only I had that kind of unlimited zapping power during tax season. It's only 4 months a year, although I might need a bit of that to survive October. Maybe we can do a per-zap basis around then? Where can we buy this???? And if we can, that's definitely going in as a business expense.1 point

If it was rejected, the efile year should be automatically updated. Frustrating as hell that ATX doesn't have an error check on this when creating the efile. Should not be hard to do. BTW, the efile submission is the long number on the EF form. It's easy to see the year and your EFIN in the ID.1 point

Drake is definitely superior to OltPro. Been there with OltPro and am sorry I ever did. Drake will cost a bit more but it is more than worth it. If you only have a few clients, check with Drake to see if there are PPR options or some other that would not cost you the full price. Which ever way you choose to go, purchase Drake before May 31 so you get the best discount.1 point

Thanks to all. I shut down the software and my computer more than once. Nothing. I finally signed on to my assistant's machine and logged in using her user ID. Nothing. However, when i came back to my computer and did one more check, I saw an S-Corp with a very strange name. It had not been there previously, because I had searched through the list of corps multiple times. I opened it, and it was my file. It somehow disappeared, renamed itself, and reappeared. I renamed it back to its original name. (The name was really random - nothing related to or in the corporation in any way.) You can't make this stuff up. Crisis averted, but blood pressure suffered.1 point

I hope you find (or have found) your return. This happened to me last week but I did not think much about it until I saw your post. Freaked me out at the time because I thought it was just me not seeing what I was looking for. I do not remember what I did exactly, maybe shut down the program and reopened, and there it was. The fact that the return is still in the rollover manager is immaterial to the issue at hand. The rollover manager looks in a different place for the prior year return info.1 point

I don't think the IRS buys in to 'business gifts'. I agree that the partnership terminated. I believe that under section 708, a partnership terminates when a multi-member partnership becomes a disregarded entity by virtue of all its outstanding ownership interests becoming owned by one partner. I believe this would not apply in the event of the death of a partner (where an estate would still be an owner) but would even apply if there was a buy-sell that allowed one partner to become sole owner at the death of another. This is superfluous, however, because if your guy 'walked away', it doesn't sound like he died ;). My understanding of 708. Could be all wet.1 point

Other countries around the world are calling this extortion and an illegal tax, and the Netherlands recently expelled Eritrea's top diplomat from the country over this tax. I would highly doubt that this is eligible for any sort of credit here but I couldn't find anything specific. If you can't find anything in your searches, try searching for it's other name "Eritrean Diaspora Tax". From one of the articles linked below: " In December 2011, a UN security council resolution (pdf) called on Eritrea to “cease using extortion, threats of violence, fraud and other illicit means to collect taxes outside of Eritrea from its nationals or other individuals of Eritrean descent”. I googled for "Eritrean Diaspora Tax", also called the "2% tax", and came up with a lot of articles. Here are a couple of those: This one from 2015 has a lot of information: https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2015/jun/09/eritrea-diaspora-tax-uk-investigated-metropolitan-police This from Jan 2018, seems the view hasn't changed: https://qz.com/1183766/netherlands-expels-eritreas-top-diplomat-for-diaspora-tax/ Sorry, not much help, but I found this interesting and had to read about it.1 point

First, I would check on ATX for the e-file acknowledgement. I had this happen once and had to shut down ATX and reopen. The missing returns showed up. If that does not work for you, then check the backup folder.1 point

@BulldogTom, thank you, I really appreciate the input, and I do think 267 is the key. You are correct that the trust gives trustee wide latitude where the trustee has ultimate discretion and is left to make the decision on whether income is distributed or adds to corpus. She will not distribution income; it all stays in the trust so the trust pays the tax. This is the loosest trust wording ever, with only a couple of sentences in one paragraph within the will.1 point

That's the problem of dual citizenship. You can be taxed by both countries. Eritrea is rightfully claiming him as well as the USA. If he wants to have the benefit of both countries, he has to suffer the consequences as well.1 point
